Calgary’s famous for its beef and landed the nickname Cowtown. Where are the best places to dine in this city? How do they serve their beef? In this guide, we will give you the insider information you’re looking for. Here is our list of the ten most noteworthy Cowtown eateries
S. Pellegrino rated Rouge the #60th restaurant in the world in 2010. Rouge is in a class of its own. Serving vegetables from its private garden, and meat from local farmers. The dishes that come out of the kitchen here are world-class. Any trip to Calgary wouldn’t be complete without a trip to one of Canada’s top restaurants.
#2 Il Songo
This four diamond restaurant is said to be the best fine dining in Calgary. Their attention to detail and flavourful takes on classic Italian food land them our number two spot this year.
#3 Char Cut
This rustic chophouse just opened this past year and was rated Canada’s #6 best new restaurant. They put their own twist on nostalgia foods, by making everything in-house. They make pigs head mortadella, and other cured meats. And if you show up at ten o’clock PM on a weekend you can knock on the back door and ask for their famous Ally Burger.
Brazil’s Goucho style cuisine. Urbanspoon rates them #1 in Calgary. The 12 kinds of meat they serve are slow roasted over a rotisserie and carved at your table. Any carnivore in Cowtown can respect this.
#5 River Cafe
An upscale restaurant located on an Island in the heart of downtown. You will feel like you’re far away from the city. Their farm to table philosophy, and ability to transport you out of the city is inspiring.
Located in the theatre district Teatro is a jewel. Opened by celebrity chef and educator Michael Allamier it has been a favourite in the city for years.
The modern European cuisine of petite is inspiring. With only six entrees to choose from you will see that the quality over quantity approach works for this small local hotspot.
Vegetarian restaurants in Cowtown have to be pretty special to survive. The menu at The Coup is so damn good it landed a spot in our top ten list.
Modern Italian Cuisine; fine dining at its best. This restaurant is located in the historical Inglewood, right down the street from our #1 pick Rouge. When you come to Calgary make sure you check it out.
Stephen Ave is full of world-class restaurants, and toping that list is the Belvedere. The wine spectator awards them the Best of Award, and we award them our #10 spot. Sleek and elegant are the two words that I would use to describe this restaurant. The food is local and unique; and the space is stunning. Worth the splurge.
